Welcome to the premier North Carolina Retina and Vitreous Ophthalmology Clinic located in Greenville, NC. Started by Dr. Peter Van Houten, M.D. in 1993 with the goal to be the best retina/vitreous eye clinic possible providing state of the art medical and surgical eye care. Educational background includes graduating from University of Miami with the MD degree, a year of Internal Medicine internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, three year General Ophthalmology residency at University of Maryland and finally a two year Retina and Vitreous fellowship at University of Illinois (Eye and Ear Hospital) before moving to Greenville to practice being a Retina Specialist.

Dr. Van Houten is the Administrator and organizer of the professional educational group called North Carolina Retina Club. This is about 152 retina specialists in a four state area that get together once a quarter to present interesting cases and problems that need group opinions to solve. Videos of interesting surgical techniques and diagnostic dilemmas are discussed in order to help all patients.

Other activities include membership in: American Medical Association, NC Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, NC Medical Society, American Society of Retina Specialists. Other activity in the Greenville area include Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at ECU, being a past officer of the Pitt County Medical Society, past member of the Investigational Review Board (PCMH). Vice President of Brightleaf Amateur Radio Club (Communication support for emergencies and charitable organizations). Support for Eileen Van Houten who founded the Rocking Horse Therapeutic Riding Program for the disabled, helped establish the Upper School at Oakwood School, past officer at the Arts Council, past ECU educator teaching business law at ECU.
